Omschrijving
Do you want to be part of an international IB school in Amsterdam where learning is at the heart of everything we do? Then we invite you to apply!
About us
The Amsterdam International Community School (AICS) is a Dutch International Primary and Secondary School, offering international education in English to 2400 students of more than 80 different nationalities who are (temporarily) living in the Netherlands and
are enjoying high quality, accessible, community-based international learning.
The AICS is a partly-state-funded community school, which enables us to deliver high-quality education at competitive fees. We were the first school in the Netherlands to offer the full IB continuum (IB, PYP, MYP, DP, and CP) and are a fully accredited member
of the Council of International Schools (CIS).
AICS students value and embrace differences and diversity. Our education aims to teach our students to become compassionate and wise human beings through knowledge and inquiry.
The AICS is guided by the core values of belonging, a possibility mindset, and
learning for life, fostering a supportive community in which students, staff and parents feel valued, approach challenges with optimism, and are committed to continuous personal and academic development.
This is what you bring
You are a teacher who values collaboration, demonstrates
flexibility in a dynamic learning environment, and is committed to the
continuous development of both students and your own professional practice.
We are particularly interested in hearing from qualified Secondary Teachers who are fluent in Dutch, even if Dutch is not currently your listed teaching subject. Perhaps you are qualified in Languages, History, Geography, or another subject,
but have a passion for Dutch language and would like to develop this into a new area of your teaching practice. We are particularly interested in hearing from experienced teachers of Dutch as a Foreign Language (NT2), even if they are not yet holding a teaching
qualification for Secondary.
- A valid teaching qualification recognised by DUO to be able to teach in a Secondary school in the Netherlands, or the aspiration of attaining this qualification
- Fluency in Dutch and English and a strong interest in teaching Dutch as a foreign language
- Excellent knowledge and experience of various teaching and educational methodologies, pedagogical approaches and innovative learning strategies
- An understanding and knowledge of various cultural backgrounds
- Cultural competence and strong expertise in tailoring instruction to a broad spectrum of diverse learners
- Experience in working in international teams
- Good command of the English language and communication skills
- A commitment to the school’s mission to provide high-quality community-based international learning in the form of the IB programme
- A resilient attitude and a good sense of humour
- Strength in planning and organising engaging lessons, while building and maintaining strong relationships with students, colleagues, and parents
You do not necessarily need to hold a Dutch language teaching qualification already. If you are a qualified Secondary teacher in another subject and are fluent in Dutch, we are open to exploring how your existing qualifications and experience
could transfer to teaching Dutch. We are willing to support and guide the right candidate through the necessary professional development and training to obtain this qualification.
About the position
For our Language department we are looking for a qualified and fluent Dutch-speaking teacher with a strong understanding of or interest in inquiry-based learning, ideally with experience in the International Baccalaureate (MYP/DP).
We are taking a flexible approach to this recruitment. While experience and qualifications in teaching Dutch are welcome, we are also keen to hear from qualified secondary teachers of other subjects who are fluent in Dutch and would be interested
in developing their practice in Dutch Language. Your subject expertise, teaching experience and enthusiasm for Dutch may provide an excellent foundation for this transition, and we can discuss the professional development and support that may be needed.
You feel confident being part of a large school community and like to work as part of a professional team. You are able to cater for students with many different social, emotional, and educational needs, from a variety of different cultural backgrounds and
countries.
