Your role as an English Teacher

As an English Teacher, you inspire students to develop their language skills and confidence in speaking, reading and writing English. You create engaging and varied lessons that connect with students’ interests and learning needs.

You support and guide students in their development, encourage them to participate actively and help them get the best out of themselves. Together, you create a positive and safe learning environment where students feel seen, challenged and motivated to grow.

About the International School Groningen

The International School Groningen provides a comprehensive educational programme to approximately 160 students aged between 11 and 18. The school offers the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme to the first five years (age 11-16), followed by the Diploma Programme in the final two years (age 16-18). The International School Groningen is a unique IB World School (www.ibo.org) and shares the campus with a larger Dutch Secondary School, the Maartenscollege in Haren. Your qualities

The successful candidate:

• Is an experienced school teacher of English language and literature, preferably with knowledge and/or experience of the International Baccalaureate programmes.
• Has English language skills at a mother tongue level (C2 Proficient).
• Is a highly dynamic and motivated teacher.
• Has an awareness of the needs of an intercultural environment.
• Is interested in taking an active role within the international school.
• Is qualified to teach in secondary education in the Netherlands (2e graads) (Foreign diploma? See here).

What we offer you

We offer a temporary part-time position within a supportive and dynamic team of teachers and a well-resourced working environment. Our students are highly motivated and keen to learn. We are offering a position of 0,55 fte.

You will initially be offered a fixed-term contract starting on 1 August 2026 for a period of 12 months. If all goes well, we will convert the contract to a permanent position and you will receive an appropriate salary in accordance with the CAO VO; Scale LB, up to €5.520 gross per month for a full-time role.

At a Carmel school you can count on good terms of employment based on the CAO VO, such as an 8.33% end-of-year bonus (full 13th month’s salary), an 8% holiday allowance, a good pension scheme and a contribution towards commuting costs.
